Watching over the Sound
Funders united to ensure that our water is clean and safe.
As you dig your toes into the sand at beaches around Westchester this summer, be assured that there’s always someone watching out for you and monitoring the water quality. Since 2011, the Westchester Community Foundation has been investing in a healthier Long Island Sound and its multitude of wildlife habitats.
With our support, Save the Sound has launched the Western Long Island Sound program, which advocates for a cleaner Long Island Sound, and works to restore our beaches, rivers, and the Sound for swimming, boating, and fishing. Also with Foundation support, the Westchester Land Trust purchased the Otter Creek Preserve, an important site for migratory birds, marine life, insects, reptiles and amphibians, fish, and mammals.
We’re also working with other funders across the region to attract more resources to protect and preserve the Sound.
